Villas and Gardens on Lake Como
Former convent and patrician residence, Villa Monastero is now a well-known Centre for scientific, administrative and cultural conventions. Its beautiful park is filled with exotic plants with statues, temples and balustrades. From the villa derives its name from the monastery of Santa Maria, belonged to the Cistercian order and founded most probably before 1200. In 1567 the monastery was suppressed on the intervention of Cardinal Federico Borromeo and was converted into a private residence.
Villa Monastero is located in Varenna in Via Polvani 4.
